Port Wine Magnolia, this attractive, evergreen shrub produces deep green, glossy leaves. Throughout spring and summer, Port Wine Magnolia blooms large, fragrant flowers that are a deep purple tone. Port Wine Magnolia can be used for hedging and small screening in gardens. They are also ideal potted in large containers or pots. Michelia is a relative of the Magnolia and prefers moist, well-drained soil with a warm sunny position. Once established, Port Wine Magnolia will tolerate light frosts and moderate dry periods. Port Wine Magnolia is relatively low maintenance. Prune to shape after flowering to encourage healthy new growth.
