Giant Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia Nicolai), is a large, evergreen plant producing very long, broad leaves, resembling a palm frond. Large striking bird-like white and dark blue flowers appear during spring and summer - providing a stunning contrast against the bluish-green foliage. Giant Bird of Paradise will add a definite tropical-paradise feel to any garden and makes an ideal feature plant in a garden bed or in large pots or containers. Plant in an area of full sun to part shade, with well-drained soil. Giant Bird of Paradise is relatively low maintenance. Keep the soil moist during the growing season, and through extended hot periods. Shade from direct sunlight in summer, but dry in winter. It can grow to a height of 6 m and a width of 3 m.
